The project aims to bridge the gap between Christianity, Islam and Judaism, by promoting understanding and dialogue in order to counter extremism and fundamentalism.
The dialogue revolves around the brightest (´good´) and darkest dogmas of the religions, presented as quotes from the Torah, Bible and Koran. The quotes make it evident, that the three religions, text wise, are so alike that one can hardly even tell them apart. In other words; human practice is accountable for the state of the society, not religions.
In order to stage this issue artist Jens Galschiot has created the art installation ´Fundamentalism´. The sculpture is 3.5 meters high and 9 meters in diameter. It consists of the characters ‘F.U.N.D.A.M.E.N.T.A.L.I.S.M’, constructed by 8000 copper books each symbolizing Korans, Bibles and Torahs. They are arranged in a circle on top of a foundation, in which 28 screens display changing quotes, bright quotes on the outside of the circle, dark quotes on the inside.
