Revelation of the Octopus Dress
The Danish fashion designer Erik Mortensen is honoured by the erection of a bronze-copper dress at the clothing school in Odense the 7th October 1999 2am.
The sculpture is created by the sculptor Jens Galschiot, who took a starting point in Erik Mortensen famous Octopus Dress.
The collaboration between Erik Mortensen and Jens Galschiot started in 1990, but got its concrete expression in the year 1999 ,one year after Erik Mortensen's death.The concrete collaboration with
starting point in the Octopus Dress was resumed on Principal Karen Maigaard's reqeust in 1997.
In 1998 the dress came to Denmark, where it now is revealed as a sculpture.
The sculpture is disclosure by the young Danish fashion designer Joergen Simonsen, who is first designer in the house of Versace in Milano.
He has since his education at Esmod in Paris and has had a fantastic career in the fashion business with reference from John Galliano, Lady Amanda Harlech, Evanglina Blahnik, Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander Mcqueen, Katy England and Donatella Versace.
Joergen Simonsen grew up in Struer, where he on a study and vocational stay in Paris had the
opportunity to accept some advice from the late Erik Mortensen.
In connection with the disclosure the sculptor Jens Galschiot speak about the process of creation.
The mayor will on behalf the city comment on the distinguished placing in one of the city's squares
Brummers Plads, centre in the old Glassworks.
The school will immediately after the disclosure the 7th October hold a press meting at 1am,where there will a possibility to met with the young fashion designer Joergen Simonsen and sculptor Jens Galschiot. The school principal Merete Aarup will enclose the funding of the distinguished sculpture.
At the disclosure the supporting foundations will be present.
